The battle of the giants has started between google(youtube) and facebook plying for their share of social network customers

Why is Social Networking so important? Facebook realised from the outset that by putting people together in a social scene they could tap into a ready made audience and display their own advertising. What they didn't expect was the response they received in this new phenomenon of marketing which is now taking the internet by storm.

So what's with Google and Youtube? back in 2006 Google knew they were going to have to stop putting their eggs in one basket and snapped up YouTube for $1.65 billion which put them squarely into the social networking system and in direct competition with Facebook albeit with a different angle. Lets not forget Twitter who have kept up with the social networking scene and greatly improved on their ever popular service.

So why is it important for me to be on these social networks? Let me give out some facts, 175 million Twitter accounts have been opened during Twitter’s history and even if there were a third of these still active it's not a small number of users out there. Facebook has over 800 million active users which makes interesting reading. Google say YouTube has 490 million unique users every month - that's about 1 out of 3 humans on the net globally. About a third of them: ~150m visit every day and the average visit lasts 25 minutes. Now you should start to understand why it is so important to be involved with Social Network marketing and get your advertising in front of a very large audience.

Can I do my own social network marketing? We strongly recommend you start as soon as possible as others have spotted this opportunity to find easy traffic. In October 2011 Facebook updated their Advertising Page Making system for anyone to use FREE of charge, in November 2011 Youtube also made changes to their system to make it more attractive for advertisers and Twitter have introduced a better display of advertising pages through their photo upload system that allows description of products.

So why would these giant social networks allow FREE advertising? Simply because to compete you have to offer something in return, they want more people to see their own advertising so what better way than offer this free service as each time a free ad is displayed they also get their own advertising seen. It gets even more interesting because you can now link together Facebook and Twiiter accounts and each time a posting or update is made you will reach many more possible customers.
